It seems like the season just started yesterday! But, never the less, the tournament is here. Before we discuss the tournament, let’s go over the teams that didn’t make the playoffs. I am shocked Tascosa, Hereford, and Hale Center didn’t make it considering all three of those teams started 5-0 on the year. That proves your coaches point; it’s not how you start, but how you finish on the season. Now I will break down every bracket and tell you my thoughts on those games.
6A- NO TEAMS QUALIFIED
Coronado vs Randall: Friday at 8:00pm at Kimbrough Stadium in Canyon, Tx.
Coronado has big expectations for this playoff run, but first Randall awaits at home for a visit from the Mustangs. Will both teams be healthy? Injuries have played a major role in both of these teams’ seasons, but everybody will show up ready for the playoffs. If Coronado can get by the Raiders, an El Paso team awaits before an eventual meeting with Denton Ryan in the Regional Round in Abilene…
Monterey vs Randall: Friday at 7:30pm at Dick Bivins Stadium in Amarillo, Tx
Amarillo took a beating against Dumas last week, while Monterey kept the spurs with a blowout win over Lubbock High. Will Amarillo be able to use their home-field advantage and running attack to kept the Plainsmen grounded? Will Monterey’s speed be too much for the Sandies? I think the winner here will get by the El Paso team and play Colleyville Heritage in the third round as well. Here is the 5A DI Bracket.
Lubbock-Cooper vs Dumas: Friday at 7:00pm at Pirate Stadium in Woodrow, Tx
Speaking of injuries… Lubbock-Cooper has a lot of players out for the season, or not at optimal performance level for this game. But, the Pirates do have the home crowd to rely on and they will need it with Dumas coming in orange-hot…Winning nine-straight games and winning the 3-5A championship in the process.
Abilene Cooper vs Plainview: Friday at 7:00pm at Tiger Stadium in Wolfforth, Tx
Will the Bulldogs be able to slow the Cougars from Abilene down? Plainview got in as the last seed in 3-5A and look to get out of the first round for the first time in a while with a huge win over ABC. Here is the 5A DII Bracket below.
OK.. Estacado, Levelland, and Pampa will easily advance into the Area round of the playoffs. Borger will have a tough time advancing into the 2nd round with a huge game coming against Andrews. The tough games will start for all of these teams in the Area Round as Levelland looks to be playing Argyle, Estacado will likely play Brownwood and Pampa will take on Stephenville. Who will be standing after that round? Here is the 4A DI Bracket below.
Bushland looks to be doing some traveling if they get by Midland Greenwood on Friday as the Falcons could face the winner of Godley vs Bridgeport. How about Seminole playing in New Mexico on Thursday against Dalhart! Pretty cool, if you ask me. Denver City will face a tough Monahans team and Perryton will face Sweetwater, the 4A DII state runner-up from last season. Here is the 4A DII bracket below
Shallowater will easily dispose of Grape Creek in the first round, and after that…Brock will be waiting, probably in Sweetwater.. WOW!! Muleshoe should beat Crane, Slaton should beat Kermit and Friona will have a very tough game against the #2 ranked team in 3A, the Wall Hawks. Here is the 3A DI bracket below:
Here is one of the most-intriguing playoff brackets this season. Well, except for Canadian; who will roll into the Regional Quarterfinal where a potential rematch with Sonora from last year’s thriller or Childress will await. Here is the 3A DII bracket below.
Here is the toughest bracket in the state..PERIOD! Abernathy vs Panhandle. West Texas vs Sundown, and New Deal vs Fritch should be competitive games. Floydada will have a tough time with Stratford as the Elks are rolling. And then there’s Post; a team that caught fire at the end of the season including a 63-6 thumping of Anson at home Friday. The ‘Lopes have Ozona in the first round and if they win could possibly see New Deal in the Area Round… Here is the 2A DI playoff bracket below.
Powerhouses line this bracket everywhere including Wellington, Iraan, and Albany; who has not slowed down a bit and look to get back to Dallas after a year hiatus in which Iraan made it. Can the Skyrockets get back to Jerry’s world? Is this the year Seagraves makes another run? What about the upstarts like Bovina, Tahoka, and Farwell? This could get interesting quickly. Here is the 2A DII playoff bracket below.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE 806 TEAMS LEFT!!
