CADE BARNARD LEADS A DANGEROUS CLASS OF 806 LINEBACKERS RETURNING IN ’17

Last season, we had some unbelievable linebackers that have moved on to the next level in their careers like Mason Montoya, who was first-teal all state in 5A at the linebacker position. Nevertheless, we do have some great returning field generals including a Sophomore MaxPreps’ All-American back for his Junior season, and a linebacker who has over 15 Division One offers. Here are our top 10 returning linebackers in the 806 for the 2017 campaign.

#1 CADE BARNARD- SEMINOLE INDIANS

Alright.. 193 tackles, three sacks, an interception and 534 rushing yards and five touchdowns.. Pretty good for his first year of 11-on-11 football, right? Over 15 offers await Cade in his Senior season with more to come. What’s most impressive to me is he hasn’t hit his peak yet and he has a hell of a GPA as well! Great young man, and even greater teammate. #rolltribe

#2 TREY STEPHENS- CORONADO MUSTANGS

Trey was one of  the best linebackers in the state last year and his nomination onto the Maxpreps’ Sophomore All-American team proved it. 188 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and a few sacks and interceptions to boot in his Sophomore season. This season he may have more tackles as he will be the middle linebacker and command the field. Coming in as the unquestioned leader for the Mustang attack this fall, Coronado will be in good hands with Trey at the forefront.

#3 SCOOTER GARCIA- FRENSHIP TIGERS

Scooter had 111 tackles last season and garnered a first team district 2-6A selection as a linebacker for the Tigers in his Sophomore season. He can also play great special teams and fill in on the offensive side as well as a bruising tailback. He can do it all, and will be counted on heavily for  #FrenshipNation’s attack this fall.

#4 MILAM MAYFIELD- LUBBOCK HIGH WESTERNERS

Milam had 116 tackles and a couple of interceptions for the Westerners last year. Expect Mayfield to lead the charge on defense for Strunk’s Westerners, who actually have a legit shot to get into the playoffs this fall. He was also named one of LoneStar Prospects’ top 50 C/O 2018 linebackers and is gaining interest and offers!!!

#5 BILLY FRANCIS/MALACHI PEPPERS- ESTACADO MATADORS

Both of these players could play themselves into a high-level scholarship as long as they show up and show out this season. I’m betting they will this fall as Estacado looks to improve on their Area Round appearance in the playoffs in 2016. Their defense will be tested late in the season and in the playoffs for sure. If Estacado is to go where they want to go this fall, these two guys will be an intricate part of the plan.

#6 BRADEY PORTER- PAMPA HARVESTERS

Bradey Porter had 178 tackles last season for Pampa and may have more this season since he is one of only four returning starters for the Harvesters on defense. I saw him working all summer and I have been very impressed. He may land on all-state team this season if he stays healthy, and I pray he will!

#7 LOGAN NELSON- RANDALL RAIDERS

#8 GRANT BOXWELL- AMARILLO SANDIES

#9 TRENT WELCH- BUSHLAND FALCONS

#10 WYATT BISHOP- CANADIAN WILDCATS

#11 KADE McBRYDE- STRATFORD ELKS

#12 MICHAEL PHERGSON- POST ANTELOPES

#13 JETT WHTFIELD- NEW DEAL LIONS

#14 PAUL HERNANDEZ- DUMAS DEMONS

#15 TIM CHILDERS- CROSBYTON CHIEFTAINS
